James has an obsession with photography. Fastidious within his craft, he has an instinctive eye for composition and the ability to capture the vastness of the world within a scene. His works depict a departure from reality, avidly exploring genres of portraiture and landscape.
James has traveled extensively with commissioned work and on personal projects, spending several weeks at a time in countries such as: the US, Iceland, Colombia, Morocco, Australia and Nepal.
During his time as a freelance assistant the shoots have covered a wide variety of different fields: Car advertisements, animals, still life, fashion and celebrity portraiture. It is due to his diverse experiences he was able to hone his knowledge and skills and at the same time begin to develop his own unique style.
Working as a photographer’s assistant in London proved to be integral to the process and learning of photography. “… my education in photography was to assist photographer’s of excellence… often a school of hard knocks, but hugely invaluable and rewarding!” Having worked for six years as a freelance assistant for a number of photographers including: Julia Fullerton Batten, Tim Flach, Ashton Keiditsch, David Balhuizen , Sam Hicks and Jason Bell. It was inevitable that James would leave assisting and begin his career as a photographer.
